Mother’s Day 2014

Indulge in these peaceful pursuits on 11 May 2014:

Birding: The Karkloof is home to a number of rarely spotted birds, like the Narina Trogon which can sometimes be found on the outskirts of the indigenous forest at Rockwood Forest Lodge. Further afield is the Karkloof Conservation Centre whose bird hides are the perfect place from which to enjoy this peaceful activity.

Hiking: Enjoy the tranquility of the grasslands and forest on one of the hikes in the Karkloof Nature Reserve or simply pick up the Mountain Biking trail from outside Rockwood Farm House and Cottage and walk the farm roads.

Karkloof Canopy Tour: It may be an adrenaline rush flying over the forest canopy on a zip line, but once safely on one of the 8 platforms, you can drink in the magical views and enjoy the unique forest sounds. The gentle walk through the lush forest at the end of this outing, is also an unforgettable experience. Remember, as a guest of Rockwood Lodges, you qualify for a 15% discount.

Shopping: The Midlands Meander was originally started as a collaboration of artists and crafters and that legacy of artisanal furniture, ceramic arts, wrought iron works and more, lives on. So, head out onto the R103 and make a day of it.

Eating: Moms don’t often have the opportunity to simply indulge in a leisurely meal that’s all about savouring the flavour. There are a number of eateries worth visiting along the Meander. Plan your itinerary using the provided Midlands Meander Brochure in your lodge.

Happy Mother’s Day!
