The Karkloof Nature Reserve is well signposted from the N3 (brown signs). Driving time is about 1 hour 30 mins (125km) from Durban and 4 hours 30 mins (475km) from Johannesburg. All lodges are accessed via the main entrance at the West of the reserve. To explore the reserve, you will need a four-wheel drive and a high clearance vehicle. Please note that as the lodges are situated in a nature reserve and on a farm, you will travel on dirt and gravel roads from the tarred main road.

For ROCKWOOD FOREST LODGE, once you’ve been checked in at RECEPTION, head back on the small side road you came in on (if you’ve gone over the bridge, you’ve gone too far). Turn left and immediately right at the big signboard. Go through the cement drift and head up to FOREST LODGE. When travelling up to this lodge, especially, DO NOT go off track or follow signs that indicate “EASIER ROUTE”! Be prepared for some shallow river crossings.

For ROCKWOOD MOUNTAIN LODGE, one of our team will escort you to the lodge from RECEPTION. In the event that they are unavailable, someone will come up to the lodge in the afternoon to help you settle in. Check in at RECEPTION and then head back on the small side road you came in on. Turn right and right again at the T-junction. Continue past Farm House and Cottage and up the hill for 500m. Turn RIGHT at KARKLOOF RESERVE (EAST) – ROCKWOOD MOUNTAIN LODGE sign. After approximately 1.6km, turn right at the sign KARKLOOF RESERVE (EAST) – Unit 4. Drive through indigenous forest and out into a grassy clearing.
