Directions to Mountain Cabin
N.B. ROCKWOOD MOUNTAIN CABIN is accessible using HIGH CLEARANCE or 4x4 VEHICLES ONLY. The roads are rocky and slippery when wet. A transfer can be arranged for an additional fee if required.
As Rockwood operates in a remote area, we encourage our guests to notify us of their arrival time and to proceed to our office / reception to "check-in." Although, all units are sign-posted, staff can assist with directions, assistance on muddy roads and ensure that guests are settled into their accommodation. Should guests wish to proceed directly to their lodges, please let management and staff know so that gates are open, keys are available, lodges are unlocked and alarms disarmed.
- For ROCKWOOD MOUNTAIN LODGE, one of our team will usually escort you to the lodge from reception.
- In the event that they are unavailable, once you’ve been checked in at RECEPTION, drive back the way you came for 80m
- Turn RIGHT
- After approximately 450m, turn RIGHT again
- Continue past signs and gates to Rockwood Farm House and Farm Cottage for about 750m. The road bends LEFT up the hill
- Turn RIGHT at the sign for KARKLOOF RESERVE (EAST) – ROCKWOOD MOUNTAIN LODGE
- After approximately 700m, turn RIGHT at the sign KARKLOOF RESERVE (EAST) – Unit 4 (there may be a closed cattle gate)
- Follow the signs for another 2.9km through grasslands, small streams, up a cement road, bending left and into indigenous forests and out into a grassy clearing
- Travel about 180m to ROCKWOOD MOUNTAIN LODGE at the top of the clearing on the RIGHT
NB: When travelling up to this lodge, please DO NOT go off track or follow signs that indicate walking and hiking trails with coloured arrows Be prepared for some shallow river crossings.
