ROCKWOOD FARM HOUSE

Rockwood Farm House is a beautifully decorated contemporary farmhouse in a large country garden with manicured lawns outside Howick in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The house rests on the edge of a dam with spectacular views of the Karkloof Forest and Spitzkop Farm grasslands. The property is less the two hours from Durban and less than five hours from Gauteng making it an ideal destination for travellers seeking to escape the city.

The house can accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 bedrooms with 3.5 bathrooms. There are two King bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms (shower and bath) and two Twin bedrooms sharing a bathroom (shower and bath). Bath and swimming towels, linen, soaps and shampoo are provided for your convenience.

Enjoy open plan living in the large lounge, dining and kitchen area with expansive glass folding-sliding doors that open onto large entertaining areas. Guests can enjoy the well-equipped kitchen or cook outside on the extra-large Big Green Egg. Basic condiments like sugar, milk, cooking oil, and spices are provided, as well as firewood, firelighters and charcoal.

For the outdoor enthusiast, Rockwood has over 25km of worldclass and well-maintained trails for walking, hiking, running and mountain biking. Guests also have access to a jungle gym and trampoline area. An amphitheatre leads guests to the dam ("the real swimming pool"). Or keep up with sport in the separate TV lounge, play ping-pong in the playroom upstairs, enjoy ball games on the lawn, card and board games indoors or simply relax on sun loungers after swimming and paddling across the dam. On colder evenings, feel at home in front of warm fireplaces.

Rockwood Farm House was designed and built in 2009 by well-known Durban architect, Richard Stretton from Koop Design. The black exterior provides camouflaged in Summer and warmth in Winter. The house was redecorated in 2022 by Douglas and Douglas in a palette that reflects the changing colours of the seasons: from brilliant green in Summer to golden yellow in Winter.

For large gatherings of up to twelve people, Rockwood Farm House can be rented together with Rockwood Farm Cottage as the units are less than 50m apart. The units border the Karkloof Nature Reserve and the closest town is Howick with numerous shopping options and restaurants.
