ROCKWOOD FOREST LODGE

Rockwood Forest Lodge is a unique wooden forest hideaway on the banks of the Godwini Stream deep in the indigenous Karkloof Forest of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The lodge has no cellphone reception or wifi inside the lodge. It is perfect for families or couples looking for a digital detox with some forest bathing as there is plenty to do outdoors. The cabin sleeps 6 adults in 3 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms. The unit is accessed using a gravel road. 4 x 4 or high-clearance vehicles are recommended especially during wet weather.

The lodge décor was upgraded in 2024 and can accommodate couples and families of up to 6 adults. The main upstairs bedroom is furnished with a king-size four-poster bed. The bathroom has a bath and toilet. The remaining upstairs bedroom has 2 twin beds and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and toilet. The downstairs bedroom has 2 twin beds with an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath. Towels, linen, soap and shampoo are all provided.

The lodge is self-catering with an open plan kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, small freezer, convection-microwave and hob. Basic condiments like tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cooking oil, spices, as well as firewood, charcoal and firelighters are provided. The lounge has a fireplace and tv.

Escape from everything digital as there is limited cell phone reception around the lodge and no cell phone or wifi access inside the lodge. For the outdoor enthusiast, Rockwood has over 30km of worldclass and well-maintained trails for walking, hiking, running and mountain biking across grasslands, over streams and through the lush indigenous forest of the Karkloof Nature Reserve. Guests have exclusive access to a children’s outdoor play area with jungle gym and zipline, as well as direct access to Godwini Trail to see two waterfalls upstream. Brush up on your birding knowledge with one of the expert guidebooks in the lodge and listen for the sounds of the forests many creatures. Keep up with sport on TV, enjoy ball games on the lawn, card and board games indoors or simply relax on the veranda and look into the trees. On colder evenings, feel at home in front of a warm fireplace.

Rockwood Forest Lodge is 20 minutes from all other Rockwood units on farm roads. The unit is deep within the forests of the Karkloof Nature Reserve and the closest town, Howick, is half an hour away for shopping options and restaurants. For the most memorable stay, we suggest you shop before you arrive so that you don't have to leave the area for the duration of your stay.
